Ensuring Your Car’s Integrity
What is Transmission Maintenance?
Just like the engine which requires an oil change and filter replacement and the cooling system and radiator need the occasional coolant flush at certain mileage points, the transmission needs routine service as well. Transmission maintenance, however, is needed far less frequently than oil changes. This normally includes a few key services. The first thing a technician will do when completing the transmission service is to drain it of transmission fluid. They will then remove the transmission pan and clean or replace the transmission fluid filter if it is so equipped. The pan will then be reinstalled with a fresh gasket, and new fluid will be added to finish up the job.
Transmission Service
The transmission also requires routine maintenance to be able to keep shifting properly. The service includes changing the transmission fluid filter and replacing the transmission fluid itself. Other services for the transmission may include replacing the pan gasket.
Factory Scheduled Maintenance
Most services fall into factory scheduled maintenance, which is often referred to as 30/60/90K maintenance. During these important checkups, your vehicle may undergo belt and hose replacement, new spark plugs and spark plug wires, safety checks, computer diagnostics, battery services, and much more to ensure your car remains safe and reliable.
Fluid Flushes
Your vehicle relies on some fluids for its different systems. Occasionally, these fluids need to be drained and refilled to ensure they are not contaminated, which is called a fluid flush. These services include the coolant flush, also known as a radiator flush, power steering flush, differential flush, and brake fluid flush.
Filter Replacements
There are two very important filters within your vehicle that need to be periodically replaced. The fuel filter and the air filter may be small parts but it is necessary for them to be clean in order to work correctly. When these filters are replaced it ensures a proper air and fuel mixture with no contaminants, which keeps your car running at the top of its game.
Oil Changes
Oil changes ensure that the engine remains properly lubricated to prevent harsh metal on metal contact inside of it. Oil changes also remove dirt and grime from inside the vehicle’s engine, restoring power and fuel efficiency. Skipping oil changes puts your car at risk of major engine failure.
